Official Visit of the ILC Delegation to Iraq

ILC President Ali Yalçın and ILC Secretary General Hamza Öksüz paid an official
visit to Iraq, during which they held a series of high-level meetings. The delega-
tion was welcomed at the first stop of the visit by Settar Denbous, President of
the Federation of Iraqi Trade Unions and a member of the ILC Executive Board.
During the meeting, the parties discussed strengthening international cooper-
ation, expanding joint capacity-building programs, and prioritizing ILC’s activity
            planning.

Denbous emphasized the importance of the ILC’s role, stating:
“For the Iraqi labor movement, the ILC is highly significant and valuable in pro-
moting international solidarity, sharing experiences at regional and global lev-
            els, and organizing international workshops.”

President Yalçın and Secretary General Öksüz underlined that:
“The fundamental mission of trade unions is not only to defend rights but also
to build common sense and solidarity. Strengthening the trade union structure
in Iraq will also bring new momentum to the regional labor movement.”

Meeting with the Minister of Labour

The delegation later met with Iraq’s Minister of Labour. The Minister highlighted
the importance of relations between the two countries and provided informa-
tion about the ongoing legislative reforms in the field of trade union organiza-
            tion:

“We are currently making major amendments to the trade union organization
law. By drawing on international trade union experiences, we aim to establish a
            more inclusive structure.”

Yalçın and Öksüz shared insights from Turkey’s and international trade union
platforms, noting that these experiences would be further developed through
            regional and global initiatives.
