ILC Always Stands with Its Members
The International Labour Confederation is closely following recent developments in Nepal concerning the rights, activities, and institutional functioning of trade unions.
According to information received from ILC-affiliated organisations in Nepal, recent legislative and administrative measures have raised concerns among workers’ organisations and social partners regarding the ability of public sector trade unions to carry out their representative functions effectively.
As a international labour confederation committed to the principles of freedom of association, social dialogue, democratic participation, and decent work, the ILC underlines that workers’ representative organisations play an indispensable role in protecting labour rights, promoting labour peace, and strengthening public institutions.
In this regard, the ILC has formally communicated its views to the relevant authorities in Nepal, emphasizing the importance of maintaining open and constructive social dialogue. The Confederation also stresses that any reform process affecting workers and their organisations should be pursued in a manner consistent with internationally recognised labour principles and standards.
The ILC reaffirms its full solidarity with its affiliated organisations in Nepal and remains committed to supporting all efforts aimed at safeguarding fundamental labour rights and promoting constructive engagement between governments, employers, and workers’ representatives.
The International Labour Confederation will continue to monitor developments closely and stands ready to contribute positively to dialogue and cooperation in the interests of workers, social justice, and democratic labour relations.
