KBMI President Comments on Indonesia’s New Manpower Law

JAKARTA, 6 October 2026 – Daeng Wahidin, President of the Confederation of Independent Indonesian Workers (KBMI), a member organization of the International Labour Confederation (ILC), shared his assessment of Indonesia’s newly enacted Manpower Law.
KBMI President Comments on Indonesia’s New Manpower Law

Daeng noted that the legislation includes several provisions concerning workers’ representation and protection. Among these, he highlighted the establishment of a National Manpower Supervisory Committee involving representatives from the government, employers and trade unions.

He also referred to discussions on the wage increase formula and emphasized the importance of continued participation by workers’ representatives in regional wage negotiations.

Regarding outsourcing, Daeng stated that the new framework places greater emphasis on outsourcing specific tasks rather than providing labor directly. He also pointed to provisions concerning severance pay for workers affected by layoffs.

While noting that not all expectations of the labor movement were reflected in the final legislation, Daeng emphasized the importance of continuing dialogue and using available legal and institutional mechanisms to address workers’ concerns.

He concluded by reaffirming KBMI’s commitment to supporting the rights and interests of Indonesian workers.
