Declaration on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
Women encounter various forms of physical, sexual, psychological, economic, and digital violence in their daily lives.
Inequalities in working life low wages, insecurity, informality, discrimination, and the disproportionate burden of care responsibilities placed on women make women more vulnerable to economic violence and workplace harassment. Decent work is only possible in working environments free from violence, pressure, and discrimination.
Wars, occupations, internal conflicts, disasters driven by the climate crisis, and forced migration processes further intensify violence against women. Along migration routes, millions of women face the risks of human trafficking, exploitation, and abuse. Inequalities in accessing security, health, and education services in refugee camps increase women’s vulnerability.
As the ILC, we clearly affirm that violence against women cannot be justified by any cultural norms, traditions, beliefs, or social arguments. Preventing violence requires strengthening legal mechanisms, effectively punishing perpetrators, protecting victims, increasing societal awareness, and eliminating the culture of impunity. True justice can only flourish in a society where women can freely raise their voices and have access to a safe life and dignified work.
· The legal framework for eliminating violence against women must be strengthened. Determined, comprehensive, and accountable national policies and action plans should be established to prevent all forms of violence against women.
· Free, accessible, and dignity-affirming support, protection, and rehabilitation mechanisms for women who are victims of violence should be provided and expanded.
· The international community must urgently assume responsibility for the grave violations occurring in Gaza, Sudan, Congo, Myanmar, and other conflict zones; protection and humanitarian intervention mechanisms must be implemented.
· Strong social policy tools, protection systems, and humanitarian support programs should be developed to ensure the safety of migrant and refugee women.
· Equal pay, secure employment, social protection, occupational health and safety, and workplace standards free from violence and harassment must be implemented across all sectors.
· The equal and effective representation of women in trade union structures and all decision-making mechanisms must be guaranteed.
· Equal opportunity must be strengthened across all policy areas, including education, law, the economy, working life, and digital spheres.
· Efforts to protect women’s labour and ensure equal opportunity should be supported through awareness-raising, training, and capacity-building programs.
Without ending violence against women, social justice, the dignity of labour, and lasting peace are not possible.
As the ILC, we once again emphasize:
Every act of violence against a woman is an act of violence against humanity.
Every helping hand extended to a woman is a step toward justice, peace, and equality.
With this awareness, we call on all our members and the global labour family to take collective action for a future without violence, a just world, and a dignified life.
As the ILC, we declare our unwavering commitment to continue our organized struggle at national and international levels to ensure that women live freely, equally, safely, and with dignity.
Raise your voice for justice.
Stand in solidarity for dignity.
Unite for the future of labour, peace, and humanity.
