INTERNATIONAL LABOUR CONFEDERATION’S MAY DAY DECLARATION:
International Labour Confederation’s May Day Declaration:
Continuing the struggle for decent work and a just and peaceful world…
Today marks May 1st the International Workers’ Day, a day when we fill our hearts with unity and solidarity…
In a world where working conditions deteriorate, job security diminishes, and social rights are violated, this special day strengthens our spirit of solidarity and elevates the principle of hope.
Today, on a global scale, social injustice and labor exploitation deepen even further.
The fact that the wealthiest 1% of the world’s population owns twice as much wealth as the remaining 99% is a clear manifestation of global wealth inequality.
Wars are spreading,
People are displaced from their homes. Moreover, the systematic strategies of dispossession perpetuated by neoliberalism have turned this process into a chronic issue.
Millions of people worldwide are displaced and homeless.
All these are indicators of a systemic problem…
However, instead of succumbing to despair, we must strengthen our determination to fight for decent work and a just world and strengthen our solidarity.
If there is no social justice, there is no peace; if there is war, there is no social justice!
We cannot speak of social justice, in a world where wars and conflicts persist and innocent people suffer and are killed.
Today, it is a day to say STOP to all injustices, oppressions, and atrocities wherever we are in the world, regardless of race, religion, language, or ideology.
In this context, the massacre committed to the people of Gaza since October the 7th must be immediately stopped.
As ILC, we condemn Israel and all states supporting and remaining against the genocide. We call on all conscientious people to stand alongside justice and the righteous during these dark days, which will be remembered as a black mark in history.
We call on all authoritative institutions and organizations, especially the UN, to address the grievances caused by war for all workers, including those living in occupied territories, regions of conflict, and those forcibly displaced, to ensure respect for basic human rights and to provide fair working conditions.
On May 1st the International Workers’ Day, symbolizing unity, struggle, and solidarity,
as ILC, with the slogan “Unity Creates Strength,” we reaffirm our commitment to the determined struggle for decent work and a just and peaceful world.
Long live Labour solidarity!
Long live May 1st International Workers’ Day!
