Without the Right to Life, There Can Be No Defense of the Right to Work
As the International Labour Confederation (ILC), we participated in the Palestine Solidarity Session organized by the Arab Labour Organization (ALO) within the framework of the 113th Session of the International Labour Conference. During this session, we held direct meetings with the Minister of Labour of Palestine, Dr. Enas Hosni Abdel Ghani, and the Director-General of the ILO, Gilbert F. Houngbo.
Following this critical session, the ILO adopted a decision officially granting Palestine the status of non-member observer state. This is undoubtedly not sufficient in itself—but it is a promising step toward a more just and inclusive future.
We, at the ILC, consider this development a tangible achievement in the long-standing global struggle for universal justice and labour-based solidarity, which we have consistently defended.
This decision will enhance Palestine’s ability to make its voice heard more clearly on the international stage. However, we strongly believe that this must be only the beginning.
As the ILC, we underline the following urgent demands:
• An immediate and permanent ceasefire must be established,
• All barriers to humanitarian aid must be lifted without delay,
• Israel must return all occupied territories to their rightful owners in accordance with international law,
• The principle of mutual respect for territorial integrity must be upheld, and
• The international community must act with a justice-based approach, free from double standards.
The Palestinian people’s struggle for the right to life, freedom, justice, and dignified work is an inseparable part of the international labour movement.
The ILC stands firmly and unequivocally with Palestinian workers and the Palestinian people at every stage of this struggle.
